Honestly, I’m honored by every single senior who chooses me to help celebrate this incredible year in their lives. But, I’m especially honored when someone from 1.5 hrs away reaches out about booking a session with me for their senior photos! That was Ryane, a 2022 senior, I am featuring in this urban senior photos post!
Last year, Ryane and her mom made the drive to meet up with me for Ryane’s senior session. What a fun way to spend a summer Saturday night! We started out in downtown Lafayette before ending her session in some wildflower fields!
As a photographer, I’m always looking for new “spots.” Good locations are sometimes hard to find. Not only because I’m picky, but also because there are so many factors that make a location “good” (i.e., lighting, parking, privacy, shooting permits, private property).
For a little more on this, I detail some of what I’m looking for when shooting senior photos in my post on urban location ideas for senior sessions.
Because good locations aren’t always easy to find, I tend to guard them.
I regularly have people ask me where a specific location is for a photo I’ve posted. Most of the time, I don’t reveal it. Not because I’m trying to be mean or selfish, but because I want to protect the uniqueness of the experience and of the photos that I provide to my clients.
For locations for urban senior photos, however, I can’t always keep my spots “secret” for very long. Especially in a small city like Lafayette! If you just walk around the downtown a little bit, you’ll eventually stumble upon the spots I like to use!
But that’s ok, because I’m always on the hunt for new ones! (I’m literally looking out of the car window for spots everywhere we go!)
Just before I shot Ryane’s urban senior photos in downtown Lafayette, I found this cool vine-covered wall in a neglected alleyway. It was one of those last-minute surprise discoveries that I was thrilled to be able to use during her session. The shots from this location are some of my favorites from Ryane’s session!
Of course, this location is not perfect. I do have to Photoshop an air-conditioning unit out of the shot every time. But it’s one of those unexpected urban locations that works really really well when composed just right!
Check out the rest of Ryane’s senior photos below! Aren’t they gorgeous?!?!
