I’ve known Kristin and Brian for 27 years… what?! Are we even old enough for that to be true? 😂
We met back in middle school at church, where we bonded over our “friendly competition” to hand out the most bulletins before the service (yes, that was a thing!). Even with moves across the globe and only seeing one another every few years, we’ve remained good friends — and now we’re living in the same area again! 💛
Photographing their family recently was such a full-circle moment, and getting to do it in a wonderful location that’s quickly becoming a favorite made it even more special.

Revolution Mill: A New Favorite Urban Photo Spot
This session was one of the first I photographed at Revolution Mill in Greensboro, and… I’m hooked. The textures, the architecture, the evening light — chef’s kiss.✨
Here’s why I’m loving this spot for urban family photography:
- The variety — brick, glass, murals, colorful stairs… so much visual interest!
- Golden hour light that filters beautifully through the alleyways
- Walkability and easy access — especially nice when you’ve got littles (or teens!) in tow
- Modern-meets-industrial feel that adds edge and depth to your gallery
Bonus? I rent a space here, so it’s incredibly convenient for both indoor and outdoor options!

Connection, Color, and So Much Joy
What made this session even more fun was watching Kristin and Brian’s girls interact. There’s a sisterly bond that’s just electric — full of giggles, side-eyes, and warm hugs. It’s the kind of connection I live to photograph.
And can we talk about how beautifully their outfits worked in this space?! Kristin’s rich rust-colored dress paired with the girls’ creamy knits and subtle pops of color created such a cohesive and stylish palette against the backdrop of Revolution Mill. Urban styling perfection.
Why Consider an Urban Family Session?
If you usually envision family photos in a golden field or under a tree canopy, an urban location like this might feel like a bold move. But here’s why I think more families should give it a try:
- It brings energy and movement to your session
- Works especially well for older kids or teens who want something more “grown-up”
- Offers more texture and structure than nature-focused locations
- Great for families who love color, architecture, or a bit of downtown grit with their warmth
