There’s something that happens during a senior session when a kid finally lets his guard down. It’s not a scheduled moment. You can’t plan for it. But when it happens — when they stop thinking about the camera and just exist in the space — that’s when the real photos happen!
That’s Riley.

Riley is a senior at High Point Christian Academy, class of 2026, and he’ll be heading up to Liberty University next fall. His mom told me ahead of time that it takes a little while for Riley to loosen up. And honestly, I love knowing that going into a session. It just means there are better and better photos the longer we shoot. No rushing, no forcing it. I do my best to keep things relaxed and low-pressure, so that with a little patience and space, eventually the real him shows up.
And it totally did. By the end, Riley was completely comfortable — and that quiet, steady confidence you see in these photos? That’s just who he is.

The Locations
We hit a few different locations throughout the session, mixing urban textures with open outdoor spaces, and the variety in the final gallery is so good. We spent most of our time at Revolution Mill, which is one of my absolute favorite places to photograph seniors in Greensboro. Historic brick, steel railings, open corridors, light that shows up and does the work for you. Riley wore neutrals (cream, white, linen) and everything just clicked.
Riley draws, stays involved in youth group, and spends his time with good people. He didn’t want to bring soccer or any of his extracurriculars into the session — he just wanted photos that felt like him. Relaxed. Real. Not trying too hard.
We got all of that.

Golden Hour
We finished at a nearby outdoor spot as the light was going golden, and this is always my favorite stretch of any senior session. Something about the end-of-day warmth makes everything feel a little more still. A little more like itself. And my senior is usually at their most relaxed and natural. The result is usually some of the best photos from any session…

The Best Part
Both of Riley’s parents joined us at the end for some family photos, and I’m so glad they did. I say this to parents at every senior session: get in the photos! You will never, ever regret it.
Sure, it’s a celebration of an important milestone in your senior’s life. But it’s an equally important milestone in your family. Celebrate that together with a few photos!
This season goes fast. Faster than you think it will when they’re little. And one day much sooner than feels possible right now, Riley is going to be home from Liberty for a weekend, and his parents are going to walk past these photos on the wall and feel all of it.
That’s why we do this.

Riley, it was so great spending the evening with you and your family. Watching you go from a little guarded to completely yourself over the course of a session is one of my favorite things about this work. You were a natural even if you didn’t believe it going in.
Congratulations, Riley! Liberty will be lucky to have you.
