Minimalist Floral Cake Smash – Lafayette, Indiana

I’m thrilled to share the joy and cuteness of this minimalist floral cake smash session to celebrate Fiadh’s recent first birthday!

As a photographer who specializes in capturing priceless moments, let me tell you – cake smash sessions are the epitome of fun and frolic!

I love these photos of Fiadh and her parents SOOO much, but can I be honest for a sec? Getting a one-year-old to cooperate for the session is sometimes like trying to catch confetti in the wind! It’s a real challenge at times, but you still have a lot of fun doing it!

For this cake smash session, Fiadh brought her cuteness AND her new superpower of walking! And when you have a walker in the studio, we repeatedly play “catch the baby and put them back in front of their cake” OVER and OVER again.

So to get the adorable photos you see below, photographer and parents were in a 3-on-1 situation for a while there. As you can see, we got some amazing shots of Fiadh to celebrate her turning one. Even though we really had to work for it, we laughed a lot! In a few of the shots posted here, I give you a little peek behind the curtain to see how cake smash sessions often really go (i.e., cake tipped over, mom wrangling baby to eat cake)!

The one-year-old is always the star of the show, right? But I want to give a big shoutout to Cakes by Lex Bakery for the beautiful cake. Isn’t it gorgeous?!?!

I also really love the simplicity of the minimalist floral design and the soft mauve colors for this session design! Some of my cake smash sessions include more elaborate backgrounds and design elements. But for this minimalist floral cake smash, I think simple design draws more attention to Fiadh and her cake! I may start doing more of these. Of course, I always work with clients to design a session that fits their own tastes and personalities. But I really like this as an option for future sessions!

Cake smashes are a great way to capture your child’s personality at this really special age. I feel so honored to have had the opportunity to photograph Fiadh’s first birthday.
