I started my photography business part-time in 2018, offering all-digital sessions and figuring things out as I went. I loved photographing families — the connection, the creativity, the feeling of building something of my own.
But as the bookings grew, so did the questions. I was working hard and staying busy, yet something still felt off. The pace wasn’t sustainable, and the income didn’t quite match the effort.
Eventually, I made a significant shift in how I ran my business. It wasn’t flashy or overnight — but it changed how steady and aligned the work felt.
KMP Education exists because I remember that in-between stage — when you know you’re capable of more, but you’re not quite sure what needs to change.
Like a lot of photographers, I began with an all-digital model and figured things out as I went. I was working hard, booking sessions, delivering full galleries, and trying to grow — but not necessarily seeing that effort translate into the kind of income or sustainability I wanted.
I could feel there was a limit to how much I could grow doing it that way. With my husband in grad school and 2 small children, I wanted more for my business and my family.
From the outside, it looked successful. But behind the scenes, I was trying to keep up—editing late, second-guessing my pricing, and wondering if this pace was something I could sustain long-term. (Note: With my 3rd child on the way, it most definitely was not!)
