Most parents wait for 9 months for their baby to be born but Traci and her husband Tony have been waiting patiently and expectantly for 18 months to adopt a baby girl. Their whole world changed on June 11th, when they got a call that a little girl had been born an hour earlier and the birth mom had chosen for them to be the parents. Less than 24 hours later, they were on the road to meet little Daphni in the hospital. The very next day, the birth mom wanted to see her little girl one last time (I’m still choking up over this one) and say goodbye. She brought little Daphni back to Traci and said, “I want to be the one to give her to you”. Traci tearfully said, “you know we will absolutely love her”.
As I talked with Traci during Daphni’s newborn session yesterday, we lamented at the pain and brokenness that has brought about this redemptive adoption story. We hurt for this sweet birth mother who left the hospital without a baby, whose body is still reminding her that she carried a baby for 9 months, and whose heart is now aching with the loss. We are overjoyed though at her decision to carry Daphni to full-term and choose to give her up for adoption to a family that has been longing and yearning to love a little one. We rejoice that although redemption is always birthed out of pain and loss, it brings with it the beauty of new life.
Will you join me in praying for this sweet family as they adjust to life with a newborn and also for the birth mother as she grieves the loss and begins the process of healing?
