Golden light pouring through greenhouse glass, ferns tucked in every corner, and Dominique in white — this is one of those sessions where the location did most of the work before I even picked up my camera.
I found The Lone Farm on Instagram and knew right away I wanted to shoot there the very next chance I got. Fortunately, Dominique was on board with having her Greensboro maternity photos captured there. So, this was my very first time shooting at this Tobaccoville property, and it will certainly not be my last.
Dominique and Jacob are expecting their first baby, and there’s something about first-time maternity sessions that hits differently. Everything is new. The nursery is half-finished, the name is still a secret, and the two of them are standing right on the edge of the biggest change of their lives. A maternity session like this is how you hold onto that feeling before it turns into sleepless nights and diaper changes and all the beautiful chaos that’s coming. I’m so thrilled that we could capture magic at this incredible location.

The Greenhouse
The greenhouse itself makes a maternity session like this so much fun. All those windows mean the light just pours in and wraps around everything (and everyone) in the space. Dominique’s white outfits against the white-painted frames, the ferns and greenery tucked into the corners, that wall of glass behind her. It’s the kind of backdrop that makes a session feel effortless. I loved shooting both inside of it and directly in front of it. So many stunning images!
Into the Field
We wandered out into the tall grass behind the greenhouse as the sun continued to drop in the sky, and the whole color palette shifted (gold instead of white, and warm instead of soft). I love it when a location can give you multipe looks without venturing too far. Different setting options combined with the way the light changes so much at the end of the day gives me so many creative choices to make. I love it!
About The Lone Farm
The Lone Farm is a newer property tucked into the countryside in Tobaccoville, offering a private greenhouse, an all-white indoor studio, and open fields (all available to rent by the hour). It’s still finding its footing, so I won’t pretend to be the expert on everything it offers, but I can tell you this much firsthand: the greenhouse light and the fields behind it are some of the most beautiful spots I’ve shot in the Triad. If you’re a fellow photographer or a couple looking for somewhere different, it’s worth a look.
Immediately after Dominique’s session, I started planning to shoot some holiday family sessions there later this year. In fact, I already have several Christmas sessions booked at The Lone Farm for December, and I cannot wait to see what that greenhouse looks like dressed up for the holidays. Seniors, families, all of it — this property has a lot of range, and I’m just getting started with it.
The Wardrobe
Dominique’s looks came from two of my favorite maternity-friendly sources: the Dahlia satin tank and maxi skirt set from 12thTribe, and the Daphne maxi dress in butter peach floral from Worth Collective (bump-friendly and inclusive sizing, which makes it an easy recommendation for maternity AND newborn styling!).

First-time mamas, this season moves faster than anyone warns you about. The anticipation, the wonder, the way your whole life is quietly rearranging itself before your baby even arrives — a maternity session is how you hold onto that, on purpose, before it’s gone.
