If you’re expecting a baby in Greensboro, you’ve probably thought about newborn photos at least once. But when should you book? What actually happens at a session? And how do you make sure it all feels easy, not overwhelming?
The newborn stage is as fleeting as it is precious. Your baby will never be this tiny again, and those curled-up little details — the soft skin, the sleepy stretches, the way they fit perfectly in your arms — change in just a matter of weeks. Newborn photography gives you a way to hold onto these first days, even as they pass by quickly. Years from now, you’ll be able to look back and relive the joy, the awe, and the overwhelming love of finally meeting your little one.
That’s why so many Triad families choose to preserve these memories with professional newborn photos. This guide will walk you through what you need to know about planning a session, so you don’t miss the chance to capture your baby’s earliest days.
“Our photos couldn’t have turned out better, I mean there is no way they could have been better!…Kelly gave us photos what we will cherish forever!” – Janet, Greensboro, NC

When Should You Book Your Newborn Photos?
The best time to book your newborn photos is during your second or third trimester. This ensures you’ll have a reserved spot once your baby arrives.
Since newborns are sleepiest in the first two weeks, that’s when we typically aim to photograph them. But don’t worry — if your baby comes early or late, I keep my calendar flexible so we can adjust as needed. In fact, I typically put your due date on my calendar but just wait to hear from you once baby is born! Then we figure out what will work best with your new little one!
Why Book Your Newborn Photos Before Baby Arrives
Life with a newborn is beautifully busy, and it’s easy for those early days to slip by in a blur. Booking your newborn photos during pregnancy means you won’t have to think twice once your little one arrives — everything will already be in place. You’ll be able to relax and enjoy the session, knowing you’ve made space to preserve these fleeting memories.
Many moms book both maternity and newborn sessions together so everything is planned before baby arrives. That way, you can capture the anticipation of pregnancy and the joy of welcoming your little one without worrying about last-minute details.

Where Do Newborn Sessions Happen?
Many Greensboro families choose lifestyle sessions in the comfort of their own homes. We’ll use natural light and your favorite spaces, whether that’s the nursery, your bedroom, or the living room where you spend your first days together.
✨ Choose a space that feels comfortable — the nursery, your bedroom, or even the living room. These familiar spots often create the most meaningful images.

But if you prefer a more curated OR a more neutral backdrop? I also offer cozy natural-light studio sessions in Greensboro.
Both options keep the focus where it belongs: on your baby and your family’s love.
What to Expect During Your Session
Newborn sessions are baby-led, which means we move at your baby’s pace. If they need to eat, we pause. If they fuss, we rock and snuggle until they’re calm again. I take great care to make sure that your baby is safe and comfortable through the session.
“Kelly was really careful with making sure my baby was safe and comfortable…She was incredibly patient in positioning every finger, toe, and strand of hair. I actually learned a lot on how to comfort and quiet my baby from her!” – Allison
Typically, babies sleep for much of the session. And if they wake up? I love to get eyes open shots when I can!
Sessions usually last two to three hours, giving us plenty of time for feeding breaks, outfit changes, and capturing both posed and candid moments. My goal is for you to feel relaxed and cared for, not rushed.
Parents often tell me how surprisingly relaxing their newborn session was, especially since it was one of their first times leaving the house with their little one.
If there are specific poses or moments you’d love captured, let me know ahead of time and I’ll make those a priority. During every session, I also create a balanced gallery that includes both family images with your baby and sweet individual portraits of your little one.

Why the Little Details Matter
Newborns change so quickly, almost overnight. The way their fingers curl around yours, the tiny wrinkles on their feet, the wispy hair that sticks up in every direction — all of it tells the story of their very first days.
I always make time for close-up shots of these details, alongside your family images. Because years from now, you’ll treasure not just how your baby looked in your arms, but the little things that made them so uniquely yours in the beginning.

My Newborn Photography Style
My style leans toward lifestyle images, which means your photos will feel natural, relaxed, and full of connection between you and your newborn. Instead of intricate poses or heavy props, I put more focus on the more natural moments — a mother cradling her newborn on the bed, a father rocking his baby by the window, siblings leaning in to count tiny toes.
With soft natural light and a calm, baby-led approach, your newborn gallery will tell the story of these first days in a way that feels true to you.
If a natural, connection-focused session sounds right for you, let’s chat about your due date.

What Should You Wear?
Soft, neutral tones always photograph beautifully and keep the focus on your baby. Think creams, tans, grays, or muted pastels. Flowy dresses, simple knits, or button-down shirts all work well.
No need to stress about having the perfect outfit ready right away. As your session approaches, I’ll guide you through styling, and you’re welcome to borrow from my curated client closet of beautiful dresses.
We’ll also work together to style your baby so everything feels natural and cohesive. I have lots of options for baby!

✨ Soft, neutral tones work beautifully on camera and keep the focus right where it belongs — on your baby.

Can Siblings Join?
Absolutely! Some of the sweetest images come from big siblings leaning in to count tiny fingers or parents gazing at their newborn with wonder. Including family adds depth to your gallery and captures your first days together as a whole. They’re some of my favorite!
“She was so great at posing me and wrangling my 2 year old and newborn so we got the most gorgeous genuine smiles for the whole family!” – Jamie, Greensboro NC
